What It Is
A flavenoid found in many plants that is able to block mast cell stimulation and T cell activation.
How It Works
- Inhibits basophil release of IL-4 and IL-13 synthesis, as well as CD40 ligand expression [1] and activation of AP-1.
- Inhibits the IgE-mediated release of histamine, leukotrienes, prostaglandin D2, and granulocyte–macrophage colony-stimulating factor from human cultured mast cells.[2]
- Inhibits IgE-mediated histamine IL-6 and TNF-α release from bone marrow-derived cultured murine mast cells (BMMCs) and rat peritoneal mast cells[3]
- Luteolin reduces CNS inflammation by preventing monocyte migration across the BBB[4] and, like quercetin (Aktas * Inhibits macrophage myelin phagocytosis, as well as proliferation and activation of autoimmune T cells [5].
