- It is/should be really painful
- It's done mostly on the back, on a bed
- You should have an induction after 41 weeks
- You need to regularly check cervical dilation (via vaginal exams)
- You should not eat, or drink during labor
- You need an IV
- You should be continuously monitoring fetal heart rate (during labor)
- You should progress (ie. dilate) at a rate of 1cm per hour
- You need to push.
- When you feel like you need to push, instead just breathe, rely on the fetal ejection reflex. Reduces risk of tearing.
- Someone needs to coach you on pushing: "Okay, 1-2-3, PUSH!, etc."
- Epidurals are great, and make everything so much easier/better.
- You should have an ultrasound every week or so towards the end of pregnancy
- If the baby is breach, you need to have a c-section
