Oil Pulling
Oil pulling is an ancient ayurvedic therapy for maintaining oral hygiene. Recent studies show that oil pulling helps against gingivitis, plaque, and microorganisms that cause bad breath. How? Most of these microorganisms are single-celled, covered with lipid membranes. When then come into contact with oil they adhere and are thus able to be spit out. • Why these ingredients: • Coconut oil – largely made of lauric acid, which is well-known for its antimicrobial agents. • Oregano oil + Peppermint Oil – strong antimicrobial effects + taste. • Sea salt (first dissolved into filtered water) – mechanical cleansing action and antiseptic action as it is a hypertonic solution in relation to bacteria, which undergo lysis (destruction of cell walls). It also contains some minerals that are the building blocks of new enamel. Which brings us to our last ingredient. • Calcium carbonate - calcium must be present in the mouth for proper tooth remineralization. Supplementation will increase levels in the saliva, but adding it to an oil pulling solution will help raise levels even more. .
